Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar states the inauguration ceremony of Male’ Mayor-elect Adam Azim and the councilors elected for the vacant seats in Male’ City Council will be held on Monday night.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Minister Adam Shareef said the inauguration ceremony will be held at Dharubaaruge and will be attended by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The Minister added that official works pertaining to the inauguration ceremony will be commenced as soon as the relevant documents are received from the Elections Commission (EC).

The preparations for the inauguration ceremony will be undertaken by Male’ City Council, under the guidance of the Local Government Authority (LGA), including relevant administrative works.

As per the Minister, the inauguration ceremony will be a grand event. He also expressed hope for the government, in collaboration with the mayor-elect, to carry out adequate work.

On Saturday, voters from the Maldivian capital elected Male’ City’s new mayor, and representatives to three additional seats at the council – the South Maafannu seat, Central Henveiru seat and South Henveiru seat.

The Male’ mayor post became vacant following the resignation of President Muizzu, who previously held the post, to take oath of presidency on November 17th.

The remaining seats became vacant after the councilors resigned to assume posts in the new administration.

MDP's candidate Adam Azim was elected mayor by landslide difference. Meanwhile, PNC won two of the three other vacant seats at the city council, while MDP won the third.
