President Muizzu: Don’t take a risk, elect govt’s mayoral candidate

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu told voters in Vilimale’ not to take a risk that could disrupt development to the suburb, and to elect the government-backed mayoral candidate for Male’ City.

He made the appeal during a campaign event in Vilimale’ on Saturday morning for the main ruling PNC’s Male’ City mayoral candidate Aishath Azima Shakoor.

Addressing the crowd, President Muizzu said that voters in the Maldivian capital must elect a pro-government candidate who will cooperate with the government and back its developmental plans.

“You should not take a risk. If you elect our candidate, everything will be done easily in accordance with the will of the people, and all the needs of this island will be fulfilled,” he said.

President Muizzu alleged that back when he served as Male’ mayor, he had faced pressure from the then-administration to abandon many of his developmental plans for Vilimale’.

He provided assurance that the projects were being implemented “at high speed” after he assumed office in November.

This includes permitting for construction of 10-story high buildings, removing fuel ships from the island’s lagoon, relocating fiber works to Thilafushi, developing a 100-bed tertiary hospital, and launching 24/7 sea ambulance services.

President Muizzu said his administration would protect Vilimale’s greenery, and bring about development the likes of which have not been seen in the island’s history. He said that electing Azima was crucial to delivering this goal.

He also accused the opposition of “constant attempts to create fear and disrupt development.”

The campaign event in Vilimale’ was also attended by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and other top state officials.

Following his speech, President Muizzu joined Azima in conducting door-to-door visits to the homes in Vilimale.
