President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says that the first weeks of 2024 is a ‘special season’ for development.

He made the remark in a national address on Monday, on occasion of the New Year 2024.

In his address, President Muizzu said that the last weeks of the previous year and the first weeks of the new year mark a special season for development, as he delivers his ‘Hafuthaa 14’ pledges “to the letter.”

“The last weeks of the year that just ended and the first weeks of this new year are a special season for development. This marks our administration delivering multiple ‘Hafuthaa 14’ pledges to the letter and to the deadline,” he said.

President Muizzu said the Maldivian people made some important decisions and drew up “colorful” aspirations in 2023.

“The Maldivian people decided we do not want any foreign military presence here. We decided we want the advancements, development and progress that other countries are achieving. The Maldivian people agreed we need to build generations based on Islamic principles and Maldivian heritage for this. And, we are ready for the most modern housing and residency in infrastructure development,” he said.

“The Maldivian people elected a new administration and entrusted them with realizing these decisions. The dreams the Maldivian people have for the new year are based on these hopes and aspirations.”

President Muizzu believes development should start from the bottom to the top.

The ideas for development are born in the minds of the people, and it is the duty of the party who the people choose to entrust with the responsibility to fear the Almighty Allah and properly fulfil these duties and responsibilities with honesty and loyalty, he said.

He added that development requires wisdom, stability, honesty and sincerety.

President Muizzu advised the Maldivian people to resolve to make this new year one where they are true to themselves.

Make this new year one where you distinguish the truth of what you hear and are informed, and one where you accept the truth and grasp onto fresh aspirations and exciting advancements, he said.
