National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) states that 20 homes in K. Guraidhoo were flooded in the heavy rains Maldives is presently experiencing, adding residents from three of these homes have been evacuated.

NDMA, in a post on X on Sunday, said the islands – Guraidhoo, F. Nilandhoo, L. Gan. L. Fonadhoo and S. Maradhoo – reported damage following heavy rains and floods.

The authority noted that they were collaborating with Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), Maldives Police Service and local councils to address flooding in the islands.

Capital Male’ has also been experiencing uninterrupted heavy rain since early Sunday morning, causing heavy floods across almost all roads.

NDMA, noting floods have entered some homes, said efforts were underway in collaboration with Male’ City Council to place sandbags at such locations.

Maldives has been experiencing nationwide rain since last week.

Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has attributed the bad weather spell to a low-pressure area formed over the Arabian Sea.
