Former Tourism Minister Dr. Mariyam Zulfa has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Local Government Authority (LGA).
Zulfa was presented with her letter of appointment by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in a ceremony at the President’s Office on Tuesday morning.
She replaces former LGA chief Afshan Latheef, who resigned from the post back in May.
Zulfa had served in former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed’s cabinet. But she relocated overseas after the fall of Nasheed’s administration in 2012. She moved back home this year.
Prior to her new appointment, she served as a Board Member of the National Parks Advisory Council, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, Melbourne, Australia.
Zulfa completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Curtin Business School at Curtin University in Australia. She completed a Master of Public and International Law (LLM) from the University of Melbourne in Australia, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Waikato University in New Zealand.
