The Maldivian government has decided to launch air ambulance services in March.
The decision was made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu following deliberations during a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
Briefing the press regarding the decisions made during the cabinet meeting, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, the principal secretary to the president on public policy, told reporters on Monday morning that the cabinet decided to launch air ambulance services on March 1.
The cabinet also decided to designate two aircrafts in collaboration with the national airline for the air ambulance service.
The service will be run under the National Ambulance Service, run under the Health Ministry.
Nazim said that though the service will be launched with two aircrafts, the fleet will be expanded, later.
The launch of air ambulance services in Maldives is one of President Muizzu’s electoral pledges. It is also a component of his ‘Hafuthaa 14’ roadmap.
