Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has commenced an internship program targeted towards students in secondary and higher secondary.
MPL said the internship program, organized by the company's Learning and Development Department (LDD), is aimed at providing students with the skill sets necessary for the work environment and the experience of a work environment.
The internship, which commenced on Sunday, will continue till January 4th.
Speaking at an orientation held for the students participating in the program – MPL’s CEO Mohamed Wajeeh said there was a need to increase the interest of youths in port-related areas.
He reiterated MPL’s commitment to remain steadfast in assisting youths to pursue careers in the field.
“Students participating in this program have the opportunity to secure permanent jobs within the company. Also will get opportunities to pursue higher education while in employment (at the company’s expense. We highly prioritize fostering youths to work in port-related areas,” he said.
MPL states a total of 13 students are taking part in the internship program.
As per the company, students will be receiving training in various areas under the program:
MPL detailed that each student will be appointed a mentor who will play the lead role in guiding and teaching them in the work environment.
The company has previously conducted internship programs with 20 youths completing such a program in August of this year.
