53 alcohol bottles seized from car that refused to stop; two arrested

A foreigner and a Maldivian have been arrested after a large quantity of alcohol bottles were seized from the car they were in.

Both individuals were arrested last Thursday during a joint operation carried out by Hulhumale’ Phase I Police Station and Airport Police.

Police said the operation was launched in search for the car, prompted by the fact that the vehicle had not stopped while traveling from Velana International Airport, when asked by the Airport Police.

When the car was stopped and searched at Reethigas Magu in Hulhumale’ Phase II, Police discovered and seized 53 bottles of alcohol.

The arrestees have been identified as a 56-year-old Maldivian man and a foreign man. The foreign man has been remanded in custody for 10 days while the Maldivian man has been remanded in custody for three days.

The case is under further investigation by Hulhumale’ Police Station.
