Four migrants suspected to be involved in large-scale trade of alcohol in Male’ have been arrested.
Maldives Police Service said they were arrested during a special operation conducted on Monday.
The Police identified the arrestees as three Indian nationals – Muthumagesh Murugan, 32, Dheyveraj Jebraz, 42 and Zenith Francis, 38 – and a Bangladeshi national, Abdul Mannan, 37.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence.
Police reported that a raid on the suspects’ residence led to the discovery of 511 bottles (500ML each) containing a liquid believed to be alcohol, a large amount of cash suspected to be proceeds of criminal activity, and equipment thought to be used in the production of alcohol.
The case is under further investigation by the authority.
