Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed Maldives’ unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their cause on Tuesday, stating that the country was committed to assisting them in every possible way.
He made the statement in a meeting with the Chairman and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Professor Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş, and other Turkish parliamentarians, at the Parliament Building in Ankara.
At the meeting, President Muizzu said it was a great privilege and honor to choose Türkiye for his first official visit as the president of Maldives.
He thanked the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the invitation, and highlighted on the discussions between the two leaders.
He also thanked the Turkish government and people for the support extended to Maldives over the years.
At the meeting, President Muizzu said that while Maldives may be small in size, its strategic location in the Indian Ocean, and its sizable exclusive economic zone, makes it an important player in the greater geopolitical context.
Underscoring the importance of Maldives’ sovereignty and independence, President Muizzu said the country will collaborate closely with all bilateral partners, near and far.
He reiterated his unwavering commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of the Maldivian people and delivering on his presidential pledges.
