The United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s commitment of providing additional funding earlier this month to complete the Velana International Airport’s expansion project is just one such example of how the UAE has always been a reliable development partner and stood with the Maldivian people, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
He made the remark during the reception held at Hotel Jen in Male’ to mark the 52nd Union Day of the UAE.
In his remarks, President Muizzu said this year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the UAE.

“This relationship has been very beneficial to the Maldivian people. And it is one that is cherished and valued.”
President Muizzu noted the commitment of additional funding for the VIA expansion project made during his unofficial visit to the UAE as President-elect earlier this month.
“The UAE’s commitment of providing additional funding earlier this month to complete the Velana International Airport’s expansion project is just one such example of how the UAE has always been a reliable development partner and stood with the Maldivian people,” he said.
President Muizzu said his administration will work with the UAE to usher in a new dawn in Maldives-UAE relations.
“We will chart a path of prosperity for our peoples. We will continue to be a reliable partner and will elevate our relationship to new heights. This is my personal commitment to you,” he said.
