Notice has been sent to Deputy Speaker, North Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla regarding the no-confidence motion filed against her.
Parliament secretariate said the 14-day notice was sent to Eva last Thursday.
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) submitted the no-confidence motion against Eva, the second this year, last Monday, with the signatures of 50 MPs.
The no-confidence motion was filed by MDP, accusing Eva of obstructing the no-confidence motion they had filed against former speaker Mohamed Nasheed, Eva’s cousin and fellow Democrats member, from proceeding.
Various excuses were used to stymied the motion. As a result, MDP filed a Supreme Court case, seeking a solution. The court found that Nasheed’s no-confidence motion was stalled unconstitutionally.
Nasheed tendered his resignation last Monday, ahead of a sitting scheduled to hear the motion. MDP’s parliamentary group leader, North Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam was elected the new speaker during a vote held among members on Monday night.
