Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has taken office as the eighth president of the Republic of Maldives.
Muizzu took oath during a special ceremony held at the Republic Square on Friday evening.
The oath was administered to Muizzu by Chief Justice Muthasim Adnan.
At Friday's ceremony, Hussain Mohamed Latheef also took oath as the tenth vice president of the Republic of Maldives.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by heads of state from foreign nations and scores of foreign delegations.
Furthermore, senior officials from the outgoing and the new administrations and parliamentarians were also in attendance at the ceremony, alongside 1,000 members of the general public.
The ceremony was attended by former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of the outgoing administration.
Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam who presided over the inauguration congratulated the new president and vice president after they took oath.
