Opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Sunday, has pledged to develop an airport in Sh. Bilehfahi alongside a multitude of infrastructural and economic and development projects.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Bilehfehi on Sunday evening – Muizzu said an airport was first pledged to Bilehfehi, by former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, during his presidential campaign in 2018. He described Yameen as an individual who fulfills all pledges.
Muizzu said and urban development masterplan has been formulated and unveiled – which includes the development of Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani atolls as an integrated development zone.
He pledged to carry out infrastructural and economic development projects at Bilehfahi under this concept, if elected, including the development of an airport in the island’s lagoon.
“Will develop an airport at the lagoon of this island in line with the hopes of the residents, which will pave way for things hoped by the residents,” he said.
The development of an airport in Bilehfahi is also an electoral pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Reclamation for the development of the airport was contracted last July. Referencing to this, Muizzu said in his government, things will be done in a more efficient manner, at a much faster speed, contrary to the current administration.
He also provided assurance that projects presently underway at the island will not be stopped if he is elected.
Muizzu also pledges to address pertinent issues on the island; waste management and erosion.
Additionally, he pledged to upgrade the health system and develop sporting facilities for youths in Bilefahi, alongside the development of an additional mosque.
