Deputy Minister at the Economic Minister, Hussain Zaamir, has resigned from his post on Tuesday.
His resignation letter was submitted to the President’s Office earlier today.
In his letter, he thanked President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for providing him with the opportunity to serve in the government.
Sun was unsuccessful in its efforts to obtain a comment from Zaamir regarding his resignation.
Zaamir was appointed the post on a slot allocated to Jumhoory Party (JP) in the coalition government.
His resignation comes after President Solih failed to one-up his main competitor, opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in Saturday’s election. JP had also performed rather poorly in the election.
It is likely that Zaamir tendered his resignation in light of the election’s outcome.
