Prominent religious scholar Sheikh Ilyas Jamal has signed on as a member of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
Sheikh Ilyas Jamal said he signed for the party in response to an invitation from the party’s leader, member of parliament for Meedhoo constituency Ahmed Siyam Mohamed to lead MDA’s Religious Council to new heights in serving the Islamic religion on a widescale.
He noted having held discussions with well-wishers before he made the decision. His main responsibility in MDA will be to strengthen religious activities.
Sheikh Ilyas Jamal presently serves as the president of National Centre for Holy Quran and State Minister for Islamic Affairs.
Prior to this, he has served as the secretary general of Muslim World League’s Male’ office and the second secretary at the Maldivian Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
Sheikh Ilyas Jamal had been a member of Adhaalath Party before he joined MDA.
