Maldives National Party (MNP)’s leader and presidential candidate, Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim has pledged to develop guesthouses in HA. Ihavandhoo and hand over the keys to youths.
Speaking at a campaign rally held at Ihavandhoo last night, Nazim said there was no benefit if citizens do not make money.
“The boatyards here are perfect places to build guesthouses. Hopefully, I will discuss this with the city council and recommend turning these places into guesthouses,” he said.
Nazim, underscoring there was no space to carry out industrial work at Ihavandhoo, said Dhiguru, nearby the island, will be reclaimed for boatyards and waste dump to be relocated. He added that the land becoming vacant upon the relocation can be used for the development of guesthouses.
“My policy states the introduction of the guesthouse. Just having a land does not mean a guesthouse can be built. Giving a loan does not mean a guesthouse can be built. It means people will fall into debt. Under my policy, guesthouses will be built on the island and keys to them will be handed over to youths,” he said.
Speaking further, Nazim said despite Ihavandhoo being a fisheries island, the fishermen do not reap the most benefits of it. He accused other administrations of being negligent towards fishermen and the fisheries sector.
“Should consider whether transporting ice on a cart is fair for you in this time. We are seeing ice being transported on carts today. Is this how things should be done in the 21st century,” he questioned.
In this trajectory, Nazim pledged to develop a modern ice plant in Ihavandhoo in an MNP administration. He also pledged to make easier arrangements for fishermen to acquire fuel and to develop a cold storage.
Noting the road development project at Ihavndhoo despite being contracted to Road Development Corporation (RDC) was stalled, Nazim also pledged to lay asphalt on the roads and develop them up to modern standards.
