Sun Siyam Media discusses becoming a member of ABU

Sun Siyam Media, on Tuesday, held discussions on becoming a member of the world’s largest broadcasting organization, Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

The discussions were held during a meeting between Sun Siyam Media’s Chief Executive Office (CEO) Ibrahim Khaleel and Chief Operating Office (COO) Mohamed Asif met with ABU’s Secretary General Ahmed Nadheem on the sidelines of the Global News Forum underway in Kuching, Malaysia.

During the meeting, Secretary General Nadheem said Sun Siyam Media will be given the opportunity to become an ABU member and become included in the newsgroup after an administrative council meeting of the union slated for late this year.

“Once included in the newsgroup, and made a member of Asian Vision, Sun Siyam Media will have the opportunity to share its content with other nations or broadcasters of member nations,” COO Asif said.

Asif also noted that Sun Siyam Media will receive the right to use and broadcast the content of other broadcasters once a member.

ABU was incepted in 1964. To be eligible for ABU membership, the media outlet must provide broadcasting services on a national scale.

Only two media outlets from each country are permitted for membership.

ABU’s administrative council is comprised of 18 councilors from full and additional full-member countries elected by the members at the annual General Assembly for a three-year term.
