Ibrahim Ahmed Shakoor (Shaper Iburey), an inspiration to the Maldivian surfing community has passed away on Tuesday.
He passed due to a stroke, while undergoing treatment in Sri Lanka at 46 years. At the time of his passing, he was in a coma.
Speaking about Iburey’s sudden passing a close aqentence who spoke with Sun said he was among one the first surfers of Maldives.
The friend when on to add that Iburey was also among those who worked towards bringing surfing in Maldives to the level it currently is in.
Iburey is a former exco member of the Maldives Surfing Association.
In a statement released following his passing, the association expressed sadness by “the passing away of long time member, passionate surfer, competitor and pioneer of surfboard shaping in the Maldives.”
“He is an inspiration for all in the surfing industry,” said his friend.
The surfing community has taken to social media to express their grief at Ibury’s passing, along with some of their fondest memories.
