Three regional airports to be managed by private parties

Ministry of Transport has made the decision to hand over the management of three regional airports to private parties, and made the announcement in search of interested parties.

An announcement by the Ministry’s Regional Airports Section reads that they are looking for private parties to manage the airports in Laamu Kadhdhoo, Gaafu Dhaal Kaadedhoo and Gaafu Alif Kooddoo.

The announcement calls for interested parties to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) before 30th December. The EOI must include detailed information of the top management of the company, the company’s capabilities, and company’s financial capabilities.

There are six regional airports functioning in the country. The Fuvahmulah Airport is being operated by the State Trading Organization (STO) and the Dharavandhoo Airport is being managed by Island Aviation. Haa Dhaal Hanimaadhoo Airport is operated by the government. The government has not sought parties to manage these three airports.

When the current government came to power, there were talks that all the airports will be handed over Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) for management.
