Waheed advocates in defence of the Islamic community: Shaheem

Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that President Dr Mohamed Waheed advocates in defence of the Islamic community at the highest international assembly, the UN assembly.

He made this remark while speaking at a function at Artificial Beach last night, to celebrate the one year anniversary of the 23rdDecember Coalition.

Minister of Islamic Affairs Shaheem said that the President also advocates at an international level in defence of Muslims in Palestine and the Palestinian state.He said that the fact that President Waheed condemned the film mocking Prophet Mohamed at the UN General Assembly showed Muslim countries his love for Islam.

He said that the entire Islamic community is grateful to President Waheed for the vote given by the Maldives to recognise an independent Palestinian state.

“The President advocated in defence of Muslims in Palestine and the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly. He voiced his condemnation to the entire world of the film that mocked the Prophet. This showed the world his love for Islam. They recognise that,” Shaheem said.

He went on to say that former President Mohamed Nasheed’s actions were quite different, and expressed sadness over the fact that Nasheed tried to establish close relations between Maldives and the Jewish state that continuously attacked and harmed Masjid Al-Agsa.

He said that unlike before, the relationships between Maldives and other Muslim nations are now being strengthened due to the close relations maintained by President Waheed with Muslims.

“Nasheed kept close relations with the Jewish states that attack and harm the holy Masjid Al-Agsa,” he said.

President Waheed said earlier that his government would do everything necessary to defend Islam, and since then, the Police have closed down several brothels and taken those involved in those activities to court, and also seized large amounts of alcohol and dry drugs.
