Nine people have been arrested in relation to the robbery of more than a hundred thousand rufiyaa from a South Central Utilities employee.
The employee was threatened by two masked men using swords and machetes and mugged of MVR 293,100 while he was on his way to the Bank of Maldives branch on Laamu Gan. The offenders were arrested on the 18th and 19th of this month from Thundi ward, Laamu Gan.
The police have said they had arrested two people of the age of 25, two people of age 21, one person of age 27, one person of age 22, one person of age 19, one person of age 18 and one person of age 16. Police had said all offenders except the 18-year-old were arrested on the day of the robbery, the 18th of this month. The 18-year-old was arrested on the following day.
Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Mohamed Nimal said that a South Central Utilities employee had been robbed of MVR 293,100 and a cheque of MVR 13,000 while he was walking to the bank in Laamu Gan Maahin ward, around 2:10 pm in the afternoon.
