Man arrested from Feridhoo for beating wife remanded for 10 days

The AA. Feridhoo Magistrate Court has remanded a man arrested for beating his wife in custody of the police for 10 days.

The suspect, identified as a 32-year-old Maldivian male, was arrested from Feridhoo on Saturday.

He was presented before the Feridhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said the court remanded him to custody of police for 10 days.

A Feridhoo councilman who spoke to Sun confirmed the victim was taken to the island’s health center for a medical checkup.

However, the details of her injuries her unclear.

While the victim is a native of Feridhoo, her husband is originally from another island. He reportedly works for the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).

According to the local council, the couple had previously resided in Male’, and had only recently moved to Feridhoo.

Statistics released by Gender Ministry shows 41 cases of domestic violence was reported to authorities in February. 23 of the cases involved physical violence.
