People’s National Congress (PNC) leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) states there is no room for discussions between the opposition coalition and any political party that is part of the ruling coalition with Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Abdul Raheem made the remark during the function held in K. Maafushi on Tuesday night to sign new members to Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

Abdul Raheem said that there are certain rules for discussions with the PPM-PNC coalition.

He said that the first rule is that there is no room for discussions with any of the political parties that form part of the current coalition government.

“If any party wishes to talk to us, they will need to leave the coalition government. Leave and officially announce it,” he said.

Abdul Raheem said the parties must also publicly denounce the abuses against former Maldivian president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

He said that they must support Yameen’s policies.

“We cannot engage in political talks with parties that do not accept these policies,” he said.

Abdul Raheem said the PPM-PNC coalition did not even accept the letter recently sent by Jumhoory Party (JP), inviting PPM to join a coalition with JP, as it wasn’t addressed to Yameen.

“Our presidential candidate is Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. And he is also the leader of PPM. Given this, our leadership believes a letter sent to the PPM-PNC coalition must be addressed to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. PPM-PNC will not accept letters that aren’t addressed to him,” he said.

Abdul Raheem said the letter was addressed to him.
