The government has decided to demolish the government office complex Ghaazee Building, and replace it with a parking area.
State Minister for Planning Akram Kamaluddin told Sun on Thursday that the government made the decision to demolish the building because it was no longer safe.
“Its no longer the safest,” he said.
Ghaazee Building houses the Auditor General’s Office and the Maldives Correctional Service.
Akram said the demolition of the building will begin in June, and the construction of the parking area soon after.
“We don’t know when construction of the parking zone will begin. But the demolition will begin in June, after which construction of the parking zone will begin,” he said.
Lack of parking is a pressing issue in the congested Male’ City. Another old government office complex, Huravee Building was demolished last year and replaced with a parking area.
