Members of the general public have begun protesting inside the Planning Ministry’s office building over the point allocations in the permanent list of flat recipients under the government’s ‘Gedhoruviya’ housing scheme which was publicized yesterday.

The protestors, with point allocations as their main concern, are requesting to clarify how the points were allocated. Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Zeeniya Ahmed Ahmeed was the Ministry’s official present at the scene to respond to their queries. However, her responses have been met with unsatisfactory, further angering the protestors.

Upon the publication of the list of flat recipients yesterday, many members of the general public, on social media, criticized how unfairly the points had been allocated. Some raised questions as to why individuals who had lived in Male’ for shorter lengths of time had qualified to receive flats. Some also pointed out how MDP lawmakers and their family members received flats.

While over 20,000 people applied for flats, applicants have asked to further detail the point allocations.

Planning Ministry said they will open the submission of complaints for the permanent list today.
