Bangladesh HC marks Bangladesh’s Independence Day in Hulhumale’

Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives, on Sunday, marked Bangladesh’s 52nd Independence and National Day at the High Commission’s chancery in Hulhumale’.

High Commissioner Rear Admiral S M Abdul Kalam Azad hoisted the country’s national flag during a special ceremony held at the chancery on Sunday morning, during which the national anthem of Bangladesh played in the background.

The ceremony was attended by employees of the High Commission and Bangladeshi nationals living in Male’ area.

Speaking at the ceremony, High Commissioner Azad paid tribute to father of the Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other valiant freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the independence of the country.

Referencing the friendly relations between Bangladesh and the Maldives – he extended warm wishes on the occasions to Maldivians as well. High Commissioner Azad also spoke regarding increasing people-to-people contact and more engagement in tourism and business activities between the two friendly nations.

He also took time to thank the Maldivian government and Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid for his felicitations on the occasion.

High Commissioner Azad concluded his remarks by urging everyone to work from their own position towards the overall development of Bangladesh, to achieve the ‘smart nation’ status by 2041.
