Dengue cases rise in Addu; 33 in March alone

Addu City has seen a rise in cases of dengue fever, with 33 cases reported in March alone, according to the Addu Equatorial Hospital.

The hospital’s senior customer relations officer Shafee Mohamed Hussain told Sun on Sunday that 33 dengue cases were reported from March 1-24.

The highest number of cases were from Hithadhoo – the most district of Addu.

“The highest number of cases involve adults,” he said.

Shafee said that 27 dengue cases were reported from Hithadhoo in March. Three more cases were reported from Maradhoo, and one case each from Maradhoo Feydhoo and Hulhumeedhoo.

Addu Equatorial Hospital has advised preventive measures against dengue, including using mosquito repellants, wearing clothing that cover the legs, and keep doors and windows closed at dawn and sunset.

Dengue patients must increase fluid intake and take paracetamol. Consultation will a doctor is advised if the fever persists for more than three days or if unable to take in fluids.
