Pakistan High Commission in the Maldives, on Thursday, celebrated Pakistan Day in Male’ City in national spirit.
Pakistan Day is annually celebrated on March 23rd by Pakistanis to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the first constitution of Pakistan on March 23, 1956, and the adoption of the Lahore Resolution on March 23, 1940, which ultimately led to the establishment of Pakistan. The occasion this year also falls on the first of Ramadan.
Pakistan High Commission in the Maldives marked the occasion with a flag-hoisting ceremony on Thursday morning. High Commissioner Vice Admiral (R) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani hoisted the flag while the Pakistan national anthem played in the background. The ceremony was attended by Pakistanis living in the Maldives as well as locals.
Speaking at the ceremony, High Commissioner Gilani said March 23rd marks an important day in Pakistani national history, therewith, not only reminded of the past, but also invited to ponder over present state of affairs and inspires to build a prosperous future.
He underscored that Pakistan, as a member of the international community, has played the role of a responsible nation in the resolution of problems facing humanity and the establishment of global peace. He also advised heeding the principles of unity, faith and discipline taught by Pakistan’s founding father, Quid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The High Commissioner also paid tribute to Kashmiris who continue to strive for their legitimate right to self-determination in the Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Concluding his remarks – High Commissioner Gilani extended Ramadan greetings to the government and the people of Maldives. He noted that Pakistan and Maldives have been enjoying cordial relations – expressing hopes the relations will further be strengthened in the times to come. He also wished continued progress and development for the people of Maldives.
Deputy High Commissioner Zulqurnain Ahmad who also spoke at the ceremony paid tribute to forefathers of Pakistan whose boundless sacrifices resulted in the inception of the Islamic Republic. He also extended facilitations on the occasion of Ramadan.
