Islamic Ministry, on Thursday, began collecting Zakat al-Fitr for the Islamic year 1444.
According to the ministry, zakat collection will be open until the 29th day of Ramadan, which falls on April 18.
Additionally, the ministry reveled that in the beginning they will only be collecting zakat in the form of money, and that payments in staples will be taken later, towards the end of Ramadan.
FITR AL-ZAKAT:
Zakat can be submitted online, as well as by paying in person to the ministry.
Islamic Ministry detailed that collection desks have been set up specifically for the elderly, and those who have difficulties in paying online. The services will be available on all working days from 1000hrs till 1300, from ministry’s hall.
Zakat collection arrangements outside Male’ City will be arranged by respective local councils.
Zakat can be submitted online via several options; Dhiraagu’s DhiraaguPay, Ooredoo m-Faisaa, Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB)’s FaisaMobile, Bank of Maldives (BML)’s portal, FahiPay, and Finance Ministrt’s Bandeyri portal.
Fitr al-Zakat per person is the value of 2.4 kilos of the staple product the person has used on a regular basis throughout the year.
