Foreign Ministry advises to apply for visa when traveling to India for purposes other than tourism

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised Maldivians traveling for purposes other than tourism to obtain the relevant visas prior to their travel to India.

An announcement made by the Foreign Ministry today stated that Maldivians traveling as tourists to India will be given 90 days visa on arrival as per normal; however, visa under the relevant category must be obtained for travel for all other purposes.

Travel for family, medical, business and official purposes will require ‘family visa’, ‘medical visa’, ‘business visa’ or ‘official visa’, says Foreign Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Indian High Commission in the Maldives has said that one week’s processing time is required to issue visas for travel to India.
