Operation to make Male

Police have said they have arrested 9 people during the past 24 hours under the special operation carried out to make Male’ a safer place.

They said that the 9 people were arrested between 4pm on Saturday, 15th December and 4pm on Sunday, 16th December.

They also said that a total of 359 have been questioned and advised, while 13 people have been body checked, and that a total of 383 vehicles have been inspected.

“During this special operation undertaken to make Male’ safer, one case of theft, one case of forcible robbery from persons, three cases of accidents, one case relating to drugs, and 7 cases relating to other issues have been reported on the 15th and 16th of this month,” said the Police.

They also said check points have been set up on a number of roads and that the police are checking and encouraging vehicles to be consistent with transport laws. They also said people and groups who roam around the city after midnight are being questioned.

Police Commissioner Abdulla Riyaz has said during a press conference regarding the murder of MP Afrasheem Ali, that the police will undertake great efforts to stop crime and that there is no room for criminals in this country.
