Youth stabbed inside Male’ shop passes away

The youth who was stabbed inside a shop located near BG Garage in Maafannu district of Male’ City on Friday night has passed away.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) said that the 30-year-old man from Addu City passed away at 6:45am on Monday morning while on ventilator support.

The stabbing took place at approximately 21:30pm on Friday night at a shop named ‘Krasa’.

Sun has learned that the youth entered the shop in order to hide from a group of people who were pursuing him. While he was inside the shop, two people on a motorbike barged in, and stabbed him.

A 20-year-old Maldivian man was arrested in connection to the stabbing – who has since been remanded in police custody for 15 days.

The incidents come amid a rise in gang attacks in Male’ in recent weeks. 16 people were arrested in connection to gang violence in Male’ over the last two months. Half of them were released Saturday.

In an interview to Public Service Media on Saturday, CP Hameed that the recent string of gang attacks are linked to four criminal gangs. He said that Friday’s stabbing had involved two rival gangs – NC Park and Kuda Henveiru.
