Maldives and UAE discuss enhancing defense cooperation

Maldives and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have discussed enhanced defense cooperation between the two countries.

The discussions took place between Maldivian Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi and the UAE’s Chief of Staff of Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Engineer Issa Saif bin Ablan Al Mazrouei, on the sidelines of the International Defense Exhibition (IDEX 2023) on Friday.

Both Mariya and Issa noted the importance of global defense exhibitions like IDEX, on account of the impressive international presence they attract, including decision-makers, and defense specialists.

They agreed that defense cooperation is the key to lasting peace, and discussed enhancing the defense cooperation between the two countries.

In a tweet after the discussions, Mariya described it as a ‘productive meeting’.

She also said that she was impressed by the many new products on display at the exhibition.

Mariya travelled to UAE to attend the exhibition last Monday.
