Special envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih traveled to Sun Island Resort, and met with leader of Jumhoory Party (JP) and MP Maamigili constituency Qasim Ibrahim.
A photograph of the leader of MDP Parliamentary group Mohamed Aslam, MP for Hulhumale’ and younger brother of President Solih, Ali Niyaz meeting with Qasim has been circulating social media.
Furthermore, MP Aslam has confirmed to Sun regarding the meeting.
However, despite repeated questioning, no details pertaining to the meeting was revealed.
President Solih who won the primary election held by MDP, as well as his opponent former President Mohamed Nasheed has been working to gain the support of Qasim.
JP will be making a final decision on the path for the party during its congress slated for February 24, 25.
Qasim has contested in two elections since the current constitution came into effect. That is the one in 2008 and 2013. But he has yet to receive enough votes to move on to the second round.
Notably in all these elections, JP has always gained importance when it comes down to forming coalitions in the second round.
