The suspect arrested for the sexual abuse of a 16-year-old girl in central Maldives has been released from police custody.
The suspect, identified as a 73-year-old Maldivian male, was arrested under court order in response to a case lodged with the police on Monday.
A police spokesperson told Sun he was arrested on Tuesday, but released the same day.
The case remains under investigation, said the spokesperson.
Meanwhile, a 60-year-old Maldivian male arrested in a separate case of sexual abuse of a minor on Sunday. The case, involving the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl in northern Maldives, was reported on Saturday.
Police told Sun that the Criminal Court remanded him to custody of police for 30 days on Monday.
