73-year-old man arrested for sexual abuse of young girl

Police have arrested a suspect in the sexual abuse of a young girl in central Maldives.

According to a police spokesperson, the crime took place in an island under the jurisdiction of the North Central Police Region – K. Atoll, AA. Atoll, ADh. Atoll, and V. Atoll.

The victim was identified as a 16-year-old girl.

The case was reported to police Monday night.

Police have arrested a 73-year-old Maldivian male in connection to the case.

The case is under investigation by the police, said the spokesperson.

The police do not disclose details, including the island where the crime took place, in order to protect the identity of child victims.
