Home Minister Imran Abdulla, on Thursday, has described opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s leadership getting the opportunity to visit opposition leader, PPM’s presidential candidate and former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom as disinclination to seek vengance.
Opposition leadership visit Maafushi Prison on Wednesday, and met with Yameen.
In a tweet following the meeting, PNC’s leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) said that Yameen remained in good spirits. He added that Yameen would not bend down at the face of tyranny.
Responding to Adhurey’s tweet – Home Minister Imran said that he was treated extremely poorly while jailed during the former administration.
“This shows the lack of inclination towards seeking vengeance despite being treated so poorly while imprisoned. The humility and kindness of the President [Ibrahim Mohamed Solih],” he also said.
Members from the opposition leadership that visited Yameen in prison on Wednesday include Adhurey, Madduvari MP Adam Shareef, Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Faresmaathoda MP Hussain Mohamed Latheef (Sembe), Guraidhoo MP Ghassan Maumoon and Male’ City Council member Ibrahim Sujau.
Yameen is presently serving an 11-year prison sentence after being found guilty of money laundering and bribery in connection to the sale of V. Aarah for resort on December 25 by the Criminal Court.
The opposition leader’s legal team is presently undertaking efforts to appeal the judgment to High Court.
