The operator of Velana International Airport (VIA), Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) on Saturday announced plans to close part of the airport temporarily for the arrival of Cambodia’s Prime Minister.
According to the announcement by MACL, some parts of Hulhule lagoon and roads will be closed for VVIP movement, on the days and times as below.
- January 15, 2023: from 0900hrs till 1100hrs
- January 17, 2023: from 0730hrs till 0830hrs.

As per MACL’s instructions, during the specified times, staff buses and MTCC buses will be stopping at the western parking area (A), while the MACL ferry will stop at the adjacent harbour (B).
Meanwhile, sea vessels are allowed to enter and exit the lagoon only from the southernmost channel (C).
“Also be advised that all sea vessels moored in the lagoon area marked in the diagram, ie, between the channel in front of the Cargo Terminal (E) and the channel in front of President’s Jetty (D) – must be removed one hour in advance to the aforementioned times.”
Furthermore, MACL stated that the road from the north corner of the international terminal to the north corner of the domestic terminal will be closed at these times as well.
“Vehicles and pedestrians must follow commands of the security personnel when using the road during these hours.”
MACL apologized for any inconvenience this may cause.
