Dharumvantha School, Salaahudheen School buildings incomplete by deadline

The new Dharumavantha School building and Salaahudheen School building being constructed at Hulhumale’ Phase II remain unfinished by the targeted deadline.

An official from Education Ministry told Sun on Thursday that they cannot, at the time, specify a date on which both school buildings will be completed. However, the official emphasized that efforts were underway to complete both school buildings at the earliest.

Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali previously stated that the new Dharumavantha School building being constructed at the empty land plot in front of Villa College will be completed before the end of last year – whereas teaching at the building will commence early this year.

The construction of a new building for Dharumavantha School in order to ease space constraints faced by the school was awarded to SJ Construction in February 2020. The project worth MVR 74.9 million was contracted to be completed within one year.

Although three years have passed since, the project still remains incomplete.

The new Dharumavantha School building was designed to accommodate 1,000 students at a time. It will also have a two-story library, designated rooms to house its staff, and additional rooms to carry out extracurricular activities.

Meanwhile, Salaahudheen School being conducted at Hulhumale’ Phase II was initially said to be completed for the second term of the academic year 2022-2023.

The project was contracted to Amin Construction for MVR 118.35 million in March of last year.
