The biggest Quran competition in Maldives – Ranthaaj which translates to ‘gold crown’ has been launched, and application for participation has now been opened.
This competition is a joint venture of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and RaajjeTv.
The competition was launched during a special ceremony held at Youth Ministry, by Minister Ahmed Mahloof and Islamic Minister Ahmed Zahir Ali.
The winner of this competition is set to win prize money of MVR 300,000.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mahloof spoke of the importance to appreciate those who recite the holy Quran beautifully. He also noted that while other competitions were held grandly in Maldives, it was important that Quran competitions were also held on a similar level.
“The hope is for this to be the most expensive, the biggest and most complete Quran competition to be held in Maldives.”
Also addressing the gathering, the Islamic Minister talked about specifications pertaining to the competition such as the date and how it will be organized.
He said that the holy month of Ramadhan was the best time to hold such a competition.
“Auditions will be held in different areas [of the country]. Those selected will be brought to Male’, and any necessary training will also be given.”
The auditions for this competition will be held in 10 different areas of Maldives, from January 15 to February 15.

A total of 20 participants will be shortlisted from the auditions, and the competition will kick off amongst them.
