The development of four new airports will be complete next year, according to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)’s CEO Adam Azim.

Speaking to Sun regarding ongoing projects, Azim said MTCC is currently working on five airport development projects; the construction of airports in R. Alifushi, M. Muli, F. Magoodhoo, GDh. Faresmaathoda, and expansion of the airport in N. Maafaru.

“The Faresmaathoda Airport will, God willing, be complete in February. And we are working on completing the airports in Muli, Alifushi, and Magoodhoo in August,” he said.

Azim said MTCC will begin practical works on the expansion of Maafaru Airport in January 2023.

The company will work to complete the project within one year as required under the contract, he said.

Azim said that MTCC guarantees excellence of quality in all its works, and is confident in the quality of the airports.

The design and construction of the Muli Airport is valued at MVR 221 million. MTCC was contracted to complete the project within one year on February 28, 2021.

The Magoodhoo Airport project is valued at MVR 231 million and was contracted to MTCC on October 19.

The land reclamation and airport development project in Alifushi is valued at MVR 451 million. MTCC was contracted to complete the project within two years on September 1, 2021.

Meanwhile, land reclamation for the airport in Faresmaathoda began during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration. The project was originally awarded to Gulf Cobla for USD 2.5 million. However, the contract was later cancelled and awarded to MTCC in 2019.
