The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has filed a case to Civil Court against Male’ City Council, accusing the Council of failing to render the due cooperation to the Company.
STELCO said that the case was filed yesterday, and that the Company has requested the Court to rule that Male’ City Council has no lawful reason to disrupt its services to STELCO, and to declare void the letter sent by Male’ City Council informing STELCO that it had disrupted its services to STELCO.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Deputy Managing Director of STELCO Mohamed Latheef said that the company has not been able to provide electricity connections to some locations in Male’ since last Wednesday, because Male’ City Council had stopped issuing the necessary permits to dig the roads to bury cables.
He also said that City Council’s reason for the temporary halt on issuing permits, is that STELCO complies with the regulation which states that permits have to be obtained from the relevant government departments prior to provision of electricity to lands which have been transferred from the City Council to the government’s jurisdiction.
