Male’ City Council has decided to raise the fee of parking slots issued to businesses.

The current policy makes no distinction in parking slot fees for businesses and individuals – which is MVR 1,500.

At the council meeting Sunday, West Henveiru Councilor Ahmed Ifan presented a motion to have the policy revised.

“The same fee for both doesn’t make sense. I therefore propose raising the fee charged from business owners for slots taken in company name to MVR 3,000,” he said.

The motion was seconded by Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The change is effective immediately.

The council also passed new policy on anchorage fees for vessels in Male’ and Vilimale’ lagoon.

Starting 2021, the fee rate for vessels will increase from MVR 1 to MVR 3 per meter.

The rate is MVR 5 per meter for vessels owned by businesses.

The rate for luxury vessels that dock at the official jetty or the green zone is MVR 10 per meter, and MVR 20 per meter it its registered to a business.

Meanwhile, the fee taken from vehicles for access to the jetty will increase from MVR 10 to MVR 20.

The council also decided to establish a waste management section to clean public spaces in Male’ City.
