Land to be issued from Hulhumale’ to relocate garages in Male’

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to issue land from suburban Hulhumale’ to operate garages as part of the efforts by the government and HDC to relocate garages in residential areas of Male’ City to a safer area.

HDC has decided to issue 1,000 square feet plots from Hulhumale’ for existing garages in Male’ sized below 1,000 square feet, and 1,300 square feet plots for garages sized above 1,000 square feet.

The corporation is permitting for garages to be built up to two floors.

The garages in Male’ are currently located in residential areas, posing a danger to public safety.

The decision to issue land from Hulhumale’ to relocate the garages in Male’ City comes after a fire in a car repair garage killed 10 people sleeping in the accommodation block located above the garage.

HDC said the move will help prevent such tragedies in the future.
