High Court has ordered a former employee of Maldives Post Limited to pay over MVR 200,000 for failing to complete a scholarship.
The Post office initially filed charges against dhaftharu number 9953 Asmath. The case was filed in 2018, seeking 260,987.19 spent on the scholarship offered to the employee by Post, as she had not completed it.
However, the Civil Court ruled against Post and stated that Asmath need not pay the funds.
The post office then appealed the case at the High Court. In the filing, the Post office noted that Asmath has not paid back any of the money spent on her scholarship.
The High Court ruled against Asmath, with all three judges on the bench backing the ruling.
The ruling of the Civil Court was dismissed, and Asmath was ordered to pay the funds within a month’s time.
Judges bench for this case included Judge Ahmed Faisal, Judge Hassan Shafeeu, and Judge Hussain Shaheed. The other two judges backed the ruling of presiding Judge Hassan Shafeeu.
