Sri Lankan fishing vessel finds Hivvaru boat

S. Maradhoo’s Hivvaru boat, which went missing over a week ago, has been found by a Sri Lankan fishing vessel.

A family member one of the men on board Hivvaru boat who called told Sun Online tonight said that he spoke with his brother moments ago on the phone, and that his brother called him from a Sri Lankan number.

He said that his brother told him that they lost their way, and that the boat was found 290 miles east of Huvadhu Atoll.

He said that his brother sounded anxious.

“He didn’t say much. He just said that and hung up,” he said.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Spokesperson Colonel Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef said that a Sri Lankan fishing vessel has found a boat carrying eight Maldivians, and that efforts are under way by Coast Guard to travel to the scene of the incident.
