President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that the relevant authorities will take the necessary action against misappropriation of public funds and property, bribery, and abuse of power, regardless of who commits these acts.
The President said this in a statement issued on the occasion of international Anti-Corruption Day.
The President said that anti-corruption measures will be taken without exceptions by the relevant authorities, and that the government will fully cooperate with these efforts.
He stressed that curbing corruption is an important guarantee for national development, and said that the worst consequences of corruption are borne by ordinary citizens.
He said that the government gives high priority to preventing corruption, and that the government undertook this endeavour for the benefit of the people and the country.
In his statement, President Waheed noted the efforts of the Anti-corruption Commission to prevent corruption in the Maldives, and expressed gratitude to the President, members and employees of the Commission for their work.He reassured that the government would give its full support and cooperation to the Commission in its work.
