RDC awarded MVR 71M project to develop Holhudhoo roads

Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been awarded N. Holhudhoo road development project - valued at MVR 71 million. 

Planning Ministry's Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq and RDC's Managing director Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey), signed the agreement pertaining to the project during a ceremony held at the Planning Ministry on Monday. 

Work under the project includes the development of roads measuring 3.4 kilometers with asphalt and installing a storm drainage system and streetlights.

RDC is required to complete the project in 450 days.

The poor state of the roads of Holhudhoo is of great concern to the people of the island. Holhudhoo Council President Rilwaan Mohamed told Sun on Monday that the roads are prone to flooding during heavy rain. He also noted the abundance of potholes on the roads. 

Rilwan emphasized that the state of the roads obstructed vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Speaking to Sun, Vice President of Holhudhoo Council Mohamed Ali expressed confidence that the project will be completed within the contractual timeframe. 

“We see similar projects being initiated and completed on other islands. So we have confidence that this project will also be completed,” he said.

RDC plans to lay asphalt on most Holhudhoo roads under this project, with exception of a few.
