VP Faisal: Children must strive to become patriotic and productive citizens

Children must strive to become patriotic and productive citizens who contribute to national development, states Vice President Faisal Naseem.

He made the remark at the inauguration of Education Ministry’s value education program, ‘The Leader in Me’, held at Thaajuddeen School on Saturday morning.

The program targets students in grades 9-12, and aims to help foster their positive values and attitudes through teaching and learning in various key learning areas.

Speaking at the event, Faisal said grade school is the best time to instill good values and manners in children.

“School days offer the best opportunity to learn skills, and instill in children the attributes they need to become productive citizens,” he said.

He about the importance of teaching leadership skills to children and preparing them for the leadership roles of tomorrow.

Faisal said even the smallest act can have a positive impact on the society if many people do it.

Stressing the need to promote and uphold social values and principles, Faisal called on children to promote humanity, benevolence, and compassion in all aspects of their lives.

Speaking at the event, Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali said the purpose of the program is to support the efforts of schools to instill in children the values and skills in the national curriculum.

Aishath said the national curriculum promotes eight main values.

“Each lesson and activity in schools is designed to instill these values,” she said.

Aishath said she hopes to see school graduates become healthy, productive and patriotic citizens with strong Islamic faith, equipped with the values and skills needed to become successful in the 21st century.

The value education program is facilitated by prominent life coaches and speakers, Masood Ali and Hussain Afeef. The inaugural session was attended by senior government officials and school principals.
